Editorial digest N10. Tricks and Aliens
I met the following band quite by accident – I came across a live video on youtube. Perhaps the only thing that struck me was the movements of the vocalist. One of my old friends described her as a "deviant person", with which I did not agree. Unfortunately, https://cars45.com.gh/2NKdoMC4g0BvKhs9fRAqy4TM I couldn't find the same video. In any case, it's better than the official video, at least in terms of sound quality, so let's start with it.
- Artist: Metric
- Album: Fantasies (2009)
- Help I'm Alive (4:46)
- Sick Muse (4:17)
- Satellite Mind (3:43)
- Twilight Galaxy (4:53)
- Gold Guns Girls (4:05)
- Gimme Sympathy (3:54)
- Collect Call (4:46)
- Front Row (3:35)
- Blindness (4:27)
- Stadium Love (4:13)
Information from Wikipedia:
Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that exists mainly in the underground, in an independent information and commercial space. Takes its name from the English word "independent" (English independent). This is not a specific style of music, but a general term for a wide range of musicians and styles, united by involvement in the underground, counterculture, and having some relation to rock music.
Indie is, in fact, the same garage rock, only migrated from basements and garages to small concert venues and streets.
The first song I heard was called Sick Muse.
Just listen to the guitar solo in the chorus. It reminds me a lot of the music in 8-bit console games. In addition to the incendiary nature of the song itself, the video sequence tells us that the video was not without auxiliary preparations when shooting the video. At least that's the impression I get. Well, the text. There is a certain feeling of deja vu in the second part of the track (smiley).
Wait a minute! Wait to switch to the next text in this digest. In fact, Metric is quite versatile in terms of material delivery, energy and sound design. Here is another, for example, a very remarkable song.
Notice how much calmer and more measured this song is. I think you can hear it very often on the radio (I hardly listen to it). The format is very suitable, in my opinion.
Well, if you're tired, you can switch to a slower track. It is notable for the fact that the second part of the song loses some pessimism, hopelessness, and acquires a positive attitude.
If it were my will, I would include all the songs from this album in this material. Yes, it really turned out to be very colorful, successful, provocative. Perhaps somewhat ambiguous, but it is even beneficial. And in order to finish the material on a good note, I suggest you listen to the last track – Stadium Love (the video sequence here is still crazy).
2. Igor Soprun. Contemporary Cinema Sucker punch
- Year: 2011
- Country: USA
- Director: Zack Snyder
- Genre: Action, drama, thriller
After watching the new movie "Sucker Punch", I realized that now I will be following the work of the film's director, Zack Snyder even more closely.
It was not by chance that I wrote the title in Russian. Exactly as the film is called in the original, so it is often called by the audience. At least, this applies to those with whom I communicated or was an unwitting witness to various conversations. To whom the “Forbidden Reception” was said, no one understood. "Sucker Punch". Everything fell into place: a new movie from Zack Snyder.
The movie turned out smooth. I highly recommend it to the general public. This picture is unlikely to cause you a feeling of disgust, you probably turned away in many scenes of "300 Spartans". But this will not happen here.
I think this film can be safely classified as a "cinema for a wide audience." But despite this, I would like to draw such a deliberately unpopular analogy. It seems to me that cinema is built according to the laws of video games. This is exactly the impression I had while watching and immediately after leaving the hall.
When you play a game with pleasure, there are moments when you think about how skillfully the developers tied everything up. It seems that you are running through the levels, rushing through different areas, not very different from each other. The mechanics of destroying not too diverse enemies is also the same. But many large development companies know how to present everything in such a way that you are not bored to go through level after level. You are drawn to the next corner to see what interesting things are prepared there.
So it is in the movie. "Sucker Punch" is fighting scenes woven into one rope. Strong, reliable, yet simple. There is a plot, there are well-developed characters. The nature of many of them is revealed. With empathy, we follow the development of the plot. And even though there are no unexpected twists and turns here, we are not disappointed when we mentally anticipate the next scene. And the next one will probably be a new fight. And then a short story line and another fight. And so two hours. And when you climb this rope to the very top, you will leave the hall with relief. Mentally thanks to the director for a great movie.
It's hard to admit that after watching "Sucker Punch" you feel pleasure. Still, a movie with a more than harsh storyline. But as a result, you very clearly understand that the movie is understandable, beautiful, not boring. Zack Snyder again turned out to be a good entertaining picture. You can safely recommend it to friends.
As an addition, I want to give four short films. It is better to watch them after you have read the film itself. So it will be clearer to you what is at stake, and it may turn out that what is happening in the film will become clearer to you. In any case, all four short cartoons are beautiful in their own right.

Crysis 2 video game
Here, of course, you need to provide a description from the site of the game publisher.
The world has been rocked by a series of environmental disasters, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. The aliens are back determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth, and they've started in one of Earth's most iconic cities.
The streets of New York City are flooded with alien invaders, and a wave of revived nightmares gradually overwhelms the city and its inhabitants. City communication systems are destroyed, buildings lie in ruins. You have never seen such New York.
Neither the law enforcement agencies nor the US military machine can handle the invaders, and anyone who didn't escape in time is already dead. In order to survive in this chaos, you will need technologies that no earthly soldier even knows about.
One man will inherit what will help him survive. One super soldier, armed and equipped with the latest technology of the future in Nanosuit 2, will make a desperate attempt to save humanity on the streets of New York.
Well, it's a bit pompous, but in some places it's true. It may be somewhat presumptuous to assume that all people who are more or less interested in computer (and not only) games know what Crysis is, but let's hope that everyone, without exception, knows that this is one of the "coolest" graphics games on the present moment (for nothing that came out in 2007). Genre – sandbox shooter. In fact – an interactive action movie. Very beautiful, dynamic, fun. The main character runs in a nanosuit! Everything is like in the best houses.
One way or another, the gold mine must be milked dry – and with the release of the second part, which at its very end left a simple hint of a continuation, this very milking continues. Well, I won’t dissect the game, I’ll just state my impressions.
If you take the graphics, then everything is very good. I am not a connoisseur of beauty, and the lack of support for DirectX 11 does not seem terrible to me (some users pay special attention to this on the forums), I will say this – beautifully done. And almost does not slow down.
As for the plot, there is nothing to surprise in 2011. To say that the story keeps in suspense is to prevaricate. It's just interesting to run around the sandbox and wet the adversaries.
In general, the game is good, there is nothing super unusual in it – a high-quality shooter, and nothing more. As I already wrote, there should be a continuation – since the game ends with a phrase from the category of "we won this battle, but the main battle is yet to come." Yes, yes, of course, we are waiting for the continuation.
Lastly, the title theme of the game by composer Hans Zimmer.
Fantastic adventure comedy Paul ("Paul: The Secret Material")
- Year: 2011
- Screenplay: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost
- Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen (voice of Paul)
The conversation won't be long – if you've seen Shaun the Zombies and The Hunks and you liked those movies – just go and watch the story about the alien (voiced in the original by Seth Rogen and in the Russian dub by Pavel Will). If you haven't watched it, then read on. If you watched and didn't like the movie(s), well, it happens. Maybe give a chance to the new creation of English comedians?
The plot is as follows – the alien Paul escapes from a certain government institution, where they put inhuman (presumably) experiments on him, and stumbles upon a sweet couple of comic book lovers. Then the trinity runs from the evil feds, it all looks pretty funny, since the FBI looks extremely grotesque. The film ends, I'm not afraid of this word, positively – as required by the laws of the genre. Here is such a film, quite funny, not much loading the brain.
Here is the commercial in English:
Here is the commercial in Russian:
Rango Cartoon
- Year: 2011
- Director: Gore Verbinski
- Composer: Hans Zimmer
- Voicing roles: Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin
I want to say right away that it would be foolish to expect a “weak” result from the director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I went to the cartoon with a light heart, waiting for a simple "entertainment" for an hour and a half. For example, watch the commercial:
The cartoon starts and it's really easy enough. Then things begin that are extremely atypical for such a "children's" genre – the search for oneself, one's life path, and in general – a cruel clash of the protagonist with real life. The creators skillfully dilute the not very sophisticated, but still existing philosophy with good portions of dynamic moments and jokes, but they don’t cope to the end – and according to subjective feelings, about a quarter of the cartoon simply “sags”. But on the other hand – oh, this is “on the other hand” – it is impossible not to note the perfectly rendered, almost “live” characters – the advanced technology for capturing the facial expressions of the actors is responsible for this. And in general, everything is drawn cool. Personally, I watched Rango in the cinema and not in 3D, it just so happened – probably even better in the 3D version.
Yes, the music of Hans Zimmer is also a huge plus. Recommended for viewing.

Well, it's a little pompous, but in some places it's true.
One way or another, the gold mine must be milked dry – and with the release of the second part, which at the very end left a simple hint of a continuation, this very milking continues.

Rango Cartoon
- Year: 2011
- Director: Gore Verbinski
- Composer: Hans Zimmer
- Voice roles: Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin
